I was actually surprised at how moved I was by You & Me. By the time the final third of the film came around, I was so invested in these two characters it was devastating to watch them face their first real challenge as a couple (a challenge that has nothing to do with either of their disabilities). I was a puddle by the end of the film. I’ve watched it twice since, and it works every time. This is a beautiful and funny film.
Lots of films have featured deaf and blind characters, but precious few have made the effort to take as honest and multifaceted a look at their day-to-day lives as this one does. It’s revealing and perceptive and often quite funny.
